‘Think Positive! Think Success!’ has become a guiding slogan for me for so long. When someone asks me what is so good about ‘thinking positive’, my counter question would be-‐ ‘So what is so bad about thinking positive?’
People who made history initiated that spark with the positive thought. Thomas Alva Edison (1847–1931) wanted to kill the darkness so he invented Electric Bulb. Karl Marx (1818-‐ 1883) was rejected by a University for the job of professor and was later exiled from his country after which he became the world renowned philosopher. Bill Gates (born 1955) could not complete his formal education and he determined to be World’s most influential person. Steve Jobs (1955-‐2011) was expelled from his own company Apple Inc. but he later returned to the company to make it one of the world’s most innovative venture with boundless of profits. Lionel Messi (born 1987) who was a victim of Growth Harmone Deficiency form his childhood became one of the best football players of this Era. Lets not go very far, Jhamak Kumari Ghimire (born 1980) who can’t even speak and walk has become an acclaimed writer winning the prestigious ‘Madan Puraskar’ by writing with her left foot.
These are not the stories. These are the realities. So lets go deeper inside their success-‐ What made these people successful? The only answer is-‐ ‘Positive Thinking’.
Edison who was a school dropout and had hearing problem from his childhood had a choice to curse the darkness and remain in dark. But he chose invention.
Karl Marx would have remained depressed and frustrated but he chose to fight back.
Don’t you think Bill Gates and Steve Jobs could enjoy the ‘ unemployment allowances provided by the US Government and roam here and there spreading negativity about the Education System. But they chose shaping the future of Humankind by their innovation and entrepreneurship.
Messi and Jhamak may have been over-‐shadowed by their ailments and given up but they bounced back just because of their ‘Positive Thoughts’ that they could make the change in their lives and the lives of so many others in the world.
I have been asked this question so many times-‐ why do you only cite the examples of these ‘lucky people’ who succeeded? I cite their examples because I think they are not ‘lucky’ rather they are among the unluckiest people in the world who were deprived by the amenities and stature, that we think, make people successful. So a question may surround in our mind-‐ Does a person need to be in a pathetic and dire condition to be successful? The answer again is NO. Binod Chaudhary (Nepalese Billionaire born on 1955) was from a business family. He was never in the financial problem or any other adversity but he came out of the comfort zone and thought he could do more to establish himself not only in Nepal but also in the world. He planned for the exponential growth of his business with diversification and internationalization and here He is now-‐ Mr. Chaudhary is listed in prestigious Forbes Magazine as the 1460th richest person in the world.
The only reason that every people named here succeeded is ‘Positive Thinking’.
Every human being has two layer of mind: Conscious Mind and Subconscious Mind. Conscious Mind manages your daily activities, reflux actions, reactions, physical works, your social interactions, your pain, your happiness and everything that seems as your personality. If I slap in your cheek, you immediately react either by crying or hitting me back. If I pat in your back with the notion of encouragement, you feel good and greet back to me. If I crack a joke, you laugh. If I betray you, you feel shattered. If I criticize you, you get furious. If I appreciate you, you feel the sense of pleasure. But these are all the instant activities, which has nothing to do with the deeper level of our thought i.e., subconscious mind.
If something is deeply stored in your mind that reaches to the next level of your consciousness which is called Subconscious Mind, that turns out to become your trait and your way of thinking. Let me make it more vivid with an example of our day to day activity-‐ A person scolds you with negative words and you start thinking about that person-‐ how bad he is, how non-‐sense he is and how worthless he is for you. You start remembering his past activities that had hurt you. You start analyzing his every activity in the new light of negativity. You do not want to speak to that person. You do not want to think about that person but the thinking keeps on haunting you and makes you sad. Next time when you meet that person, you feel like spitting in his/her face. If you really do that-‐ where will it lead? But lets think in the reverse gear-‐ When a person scolds you, you can you simply say-‐ ‘Thank you for your feedback. I will correct it.’ You use your conscious brain to stop the dispute and the unnecessary stress right there. You save your energy, you save your mind being revolved around that negativity which might sometimes make you sick. But please make sure you don’t say ‘Thank you’ and ‘Sorry’ in satire. When you say something, you really have to mean that. You will then have more time for creativity and positive achievement that makes your life as successful as the people mentioned above. So the best way of keeping oneself positive is ignoring negativity.
If you see something very positive around you, make sure you think about it, praise it and preserve it and try to store it deeper inside your thoughts and that will multiply your happiness. When you wake up in the morning-‐ just say ‘What a beautiful Morning!’ instead of feeling like-‐ ‘The Rat-‐Race has begun again!’ When you go to workplace, just think ‘What an amazing opportunity to serve people!’ rather than thinking-‐ ‘Oh God! Yet another hectic day!’ When you meet your family in dinner table in the evening, just think-‐ ‘Thank God! We could make it together again!’ When you party with your friends, just imagine ‘how enjoyable life is!’ The more you think positive, the more positive messages surround your mind. More positive messages and thoughts in Conscious Mind mean higher chances of storing that through to Subconscious Mind. Psychologist Sigmund Freud (1856-‐1939) says-‐ the thoughts stored in the Subconscious Mind start showing their effect without our notice. If positivity is stored in your deeper layer of mind-‐ that will definitely make you perform positive task and attracts the appreciation for you.
The definition of Success varies for person to person. But if I say-‐ ‘As long as you are happy with what you are doing and others are happy for what you are doing, you become successful’, then I don’t think I am wrong. To make yourself happy and other people around you happy, you need to start thinking positively. Positive Thinking has the power to change the adverse situation to the normal; it has got the power of making impossible happen and more importantly it has got the power to Change Your Life for the Better.
Now another question may arise-‐ There are problems everywhere.-‐ No Electricity, No Petrol, No Employment, No Constitution, Strikes, Riots, Wars, Epidemics, Natural Disaster etc. etc. and how can we be positive?
You have to be glad now that you have the opportunity to sell that problem. So how can you sell that problem? If you take the previous example of the person who embarrassed you by scolding-‐ You can make that person to realize that you can do things properly but may be you were misunderstood. So be such a good and kind person to that negative person so that s/he feels that what’s wrong in them and what’s perfect in you. Let him/her realize like-‐ ‘I am scolding and you are smiling, I am angry, but you are cool, I am being violent but you are saying ‘Sorry’, must be something wrong in me’. Somebody has rightly said that ‘You can not change the world until and unless you are committed to change yourself’. This creates the positive vibes between the anti-‐characters and save the energy and time of being negative. This will have larger chain effect and save yourself to ruin your personal, family and professional life too.
Napoleon Hill (1883-‐1970) outlines the secret of success in 15 points in his precious bestseller ‘The Law of Success’. These 15 points were the conclusion of the interview conducted with the Most Successful people of that era-‐ Mr. Andrew Carnegie (the steel giant of US), Henry Ford (Motor Business giant), J. P. Morgan (renowned Financier), John D. Rockefeller (Petrolium Business giant), Alexander Graham Bell (Inventor of Telephone), and Thomas Edison (Patent Owner/Inventor of 1000+ innovative products). Please see the list of secrets of success below and contemplate that there is not a single point, which is negative:
1 A Definite Purpose
2 Self-‐Confidence
3 Initiative and Leadership
4 Imagination
5 Action
6 Enthusiasm
7 Self-‐Control
8 The Habit Of Doing More Than Paid For
9 Pleasing Personality
10 Accurate Thought
11 Concentration
12 Tolerance
13 Failure
14 Cooperation
15 The Golden Rule of Harmony
All these points have the thrust of ‘Positive Thinking’ if you elaborate each. You might be astounded to see point no 13. Failure is mentioned as one of the Laws of Success. Yes you have read it right. The very unavoidable key to success is Failure. You can only fail when you try. And you can only succeed when you keep on trying even after the Failure. Don’t you sense the positivity in this? Abraham Lincoln (1809-‐1865) failed in Military Career. He went to War as a Captain and returned as a Private (lowest Military Rank). He was defeated in numerous Elections before he was elected as the President of the United States of America. The greatest Comedy King Charlie Chaplin (1889-‐1977) was initially rejected by the Hollywood Studio Chiefs terming his act as a nonsense. You might have known that Bollywood superstar Amithabh Bachchan (born 1947) failed in the All India Radio Voice Test before he started his successful movie career. Later on, he again came almost to the road with the growing age and random investments in his venture named ABCL. He again rose with his positive thoughts of keep on trying until he succeeded again as the Superstar of Bollywood. Famous Basketball Player Michael Jordan (born 1963) who was turned down by the High School Basket Ball Team during his school days later proved himself as the best basketball Player of all time.
This quote of Michael Jordan actually throws light on the importance of failure in gaining success-‐ “I have missed more than 9,000 shots in my career. I have lost almost 300 games. On 26 occasions I have been entrusted to take the game winning shot, and I missed. I have failed over and over and over again in my life. And that is why I succeed.”
So every problem has a solution within. Every demon has a God within. Every Negative Circumstance comes with the possibility of Ultra-‐positive outcome.
If your mind is resisting to embrace all these examples of heavyweight successful people with their failure-‐to-‐success story, you can try it yourself by the following method:
If somebody gives you a ‘Slap’, Give him a ‘Clap’.
If someone says-‐ ‘Fuck you!’ Please say-‐ ‘Good Luck to you!’
If you are asked to ‘shut up’, order your brain to ‘wake up’ to plan new good things.
Someone may say-‐ ‘I will kill you’. Just smile and say-‐ ‘I can feel you’. ‘Get out!’ may be answered by ‘Thank you so much, mate!’ ‘You are so rude’ has the answer-‐ ‘You are a cool dude!’
‘Don’t show me your ugly face ’ can be challenged by ‘I will start a new race’.
If somebody ‘threatened’ you. Wow! Lucky you! That guy has made your day and ‘freshened’ you. Aren’t you tired of listening to your appreciations only?
If you encounter ‘Piles’ of Problems, Just bring back big ‘Smiles’ in your face and the faces surrounding you.
Remember-‐ Positive thinking is the only tool in the world that can convert your Problems into Solutions! Think Positive! Think Success!
